Low Maintenance Garden Advice
Perth’s climate can be very harsh, so having a low maintenance garden has become a necessity for many of us who are too busy or want to do other things. Here are some tips which can help make your Perth garden as stress and maintenance free as possible!
Go Native
Choose plants that are native to the region you live in. Pretty obvious but it’s something that many don’t think to do or just get sidetracked by lots of other plants when visiting a nursery. Native plants from around the Perth region are conditioned to survive in the environment we have so take advantage of that.
Talk to someone at your nursery who can put you on the right track and also recommend other non-natives that can thrive in our hot and sandy state.
Densely
When planting your garden, try to place your plants as densely together as possible. Not only will this make it look lush, but it will also help provide shade for the soil to help prevent the sun drying it out.
Fast Growing Plants
When buying plants, choose fast growing plants in small pots. That’s because smaller plants are cheaper to buy, will give you the best value for money and will quickly grow to fill in your garden spaces.
Succulents
Planting succulents in your garden will give you a lovely mix of colours and textures, as well as being the ideal low maintenance plant. That’s because succulents are hardy and cope with high sunlight and low rainfall conditions.

We hope you’ve found these tips useful and here’s more for helping your garden cope with summer and creating a waterwise garden. Certainly less gardening means more time to enjoy yourself (and your garden).
