Recycling is becoming so mainstream that we hardly even think about it nowadays. But there are some people, including Melbourne resident Erin Rhoads who are taking things one step further.
Her household has now brought her total amount of non-recyclable waste for the past 18 months down to the size of a mason jar. She has done this through becoming more aware of choices she makes when shopping, as well as reusing and re-purposing items instead of buying new or throwing things out.
Erin brings her own shopping bags and containers, as well as purchasing food in bulk. She makes some of her cosmetics and stores them in compostable containers, sharing her zero waste journey on her personal blog The Rogue Ginger along the way.
Erin recommends that everyone tries to reduce their waste production by starting small. For example, take your own reusable coffee cup rather than using Styrofoam ones and your own plastic water bottle to refill.

Excellent advice and positive for everyone in so many ways.
More home entertaining and enjoying your own gardens and outdoor spaces is also a way to reduce unnecessary spending (and waste). Our patio and alfresco area blinds can transform that unused space into a useful one. For example, a relaxation area, games room, outdoor dining area or reading room.
