Fancy having a cooler house in summer without increasing your power bill?
Well it looks like this could be possible in a strange kind of way by using 3D printed porous ceramic bricks. Based upon the use of evaporative cooling, which is how things were kept cool before refrigeration was invented, cool bricks may prove to be a great idea for using when building homes in Perth.

How Cool Bricks Work
Evaporative cooling, which dates back as far as early Egyptian times, happens when cool air is created by water that has evaporated. The porous 3D bricks will use this process by absorbing water like a sponge and then slowly releasing this as air moves through the lattice like bricks. The cooler air will move from the bricks to the inner side of the wall, passively cooling the inside of the building.
Strong Design
Each of the bricks is shaped like a 3 dimensional lattice, with raised lines on the sides of each brick to help shelter parts of the brick from the sun, helping to keep them cooler. Strong when joined together with mortar, these cool bricks could be an option for Perth builders, helping to keep inside of our homes much cooler!
